Kathmandu — Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has formed a special task force aimed at recommending reforms for strengthening and improving the overall banking sector. The task force, led by Dr. Rewat Bahadur Karki as coordinator, was established under the direction of NRB Governor Dr. Bishwo Paudel.
The three-member task force includes Bhuwan Kumar Dahal as a member and the Executive Director of the Bank and Financial Institutions Regulation Department at NRB as the member secretary. The team has been given a one-month timeframe to submit its report.
According to NRB, the task force has been assigned to study and provide recommendations on several key areas:
- Making banking policies and regulations more liberal yet prudent.
- Enhancing risk-based and effective banking supervision.
- Promoting customer-friendly banking services.
- Defining the banking sector’s role in revitalizing overall economic activities.
- Identifying steps to improve loan flow in rural areas.
- Addressing challenges and providing suggestions on bank mergers and acquisitions.
- Identifying the role the banking sector can play in removing Nepal from the FATF grey list.
- Recommending ways the central bank can coordinate more effectively in the development of the capital market.
The initiative highlights NRB’s proactive approach to fostering a more resilient, inclusive, and future-ready financial system.
